Abstract

A job is essential for achieving social and economic stability, providing individuals with financial income and shaping their social identity, granting them a respected status in society. The Saudi labor market is undergoing significant changes, with new jobs and professions emerging that require specialized skills. This makes finding suitable opportunities challenging, given the limited traditional roles and increased competition. As the number of information science graduates from Saudi universities grows, they face difficulties securing positions that match their qualifications. This underscores the need to explore available opportunities, understand challenges, and identify suitable roles in the Saudi labor market.

This study aims to uncover employment opportunities for information science graduates in Saudi Arabia, focusing on placing the right person in the right position. This would enhance the quality of information management, organization, and sharing at both organizational and national levels. Using a descriptive approach with analysis, the study offers recommendations to improve job prospects for information science graduates.

Findings indicate that the diversity of job titles for information science graduates is a positive indicator of the field’s relevance and demand. Specializations like library science, document management, and digital archiving are in demand. The government sector is the leading employer, offering 60% of available roles.

The study recommends leveraging job title diversity, developing relevant skills, and focusing efforts on government sector opportunities, as it remains the largest recruiter of information science graduates.
