Abstract

Abstract
This research aimed to identify the extent of the contribution of public and academic libraries in Lebanon to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 within the local community. The study focused on the libraries of the American University of Beirut (AUB) and the Assabil Public Libraries. Employing a descriptive methodology and a case study approach, a questionnaire was distributed via Google Forms through email to library staff during the specified timeframe of the study, which spanned from December 2024 to February 2025. The survey results were analyzed with the assistance of a statistical expert, who processed the data and responses of the 48 respondents (out of 67) using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The research hypotheses centered on the existence of statistically significant differences in the level of promoting learning opportunities for all and women's empowerment in the local community between the studied libraries. The findings revealed that libraries played a significant role in enhancing learning opportunities and empowering women through the provision of a supportive work environment, the organization of training programs, and the offering of diverse educational resources. However, the libraries faced challenges related to a lack of financial and human resources, particularly in public libraries. Based on these results, recommendations were proposed to strengthen the role of libraries in achieving the SDGs, including improving digital infrastructure, fostering collaboration with other institutions, and supporting women's initiatives.
