Abstract

This research focuses on defining the concept of green archives, a relatively new term that requires clarification. It emphasizes the importance of green archives in sustainably preserving the nation's cultural heritage while considering the natural environment. The study also explores the relationship between green archives and Egypt's Vision 2030 for sustainable development, highlighting their shared goals.

The research examines archival institutions as information entities, their functions, and tasks to understand how to implement the green archive across all institutional functions. It covers green archive concepts, green building specifications, and the interest of the International Council on Archives and the League of Arab States in green archives. Additionally, it discusses the link between green archives and sustainability, which aims to create sustainable environments through green buildings, efficient energy and water use, and responsible waste management. Green archives contribute to environmental protection by reducing carbon emissions, conserving natural resources, and raising environmental awareness.

The study also addresses green computing as a solution for preserving archival inventories efficiently, reducing the use of costly and environmentally harmful paper. It connects the United Nations Global Plan for Sustainable Development 2030 with Egypt's Vision 2030, outlining the vision's eight goals and main pillars. The research underscores the close relationship between green archives and Egypt's Vision 2030 and their alignment on goals. A descriptive analytical approach was used, relying on appropriate references and websites, leading to significant findings and several recommendations.
