This research focuses on the profound connection between sustainable library building design and library services. As the world undergoes a rapid shift towards a greener future, libraries have become fundamental to this transformation, evolving into dynamic green learning hubs. This study explores global best practices and successful initiatives undertaken by libraries that have adopted sustainable building and service principles. Given the geographical and qualitative constraints of this research, the provided examples will concentrate on Egyptian academic libraries. The research utilizes the “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design” system as an analytical benchmark for assessing green building indicators. Moreover, it explores the essential strategic and technical fundamentals required to establish a sustainable green library that contributes to achieving the UN's 2030 sustainable development goals. Furthermore, the challenges faced by libraries during the initial stages of their green transition will be identified. Finally, the research proposes essential competencies that library professionals should possess to adapt to the evolving sustainable library environment, ultimately transforming libraries into green and sustainable learning hubs.
