Abstract

The recent advancements in technology have led to the ease of acceptability to digital materials and by that rapid growth in digital art has emerged. Although it has benefits it also creates some unaccepted practices such as visual plagiarism. High education institutions have been working on measurements to prevent the occurrence of digital theft, despite their trials still visual plagiarism remains a very complex problem that requires a lot of focus from the research community to get at the problem in-depth. This research objective is to evaluate three digital platforms that detect similar images and also discuss how they can be used in the field of interior design. Based on criteria such as superior database coverage, ease of access and use, and cost-effectiveness, three platforms were selected: "Google Images", "Bing", and "Yandex Images". The results show that Google identified several similarities in the submitted images. While Google tends to take a more general approach to reverse image search functionality, Yandex has more effective filters for contextual queries (such as image type searches and color matching). Google appears to be the most efficient among the selected platforms in terms of image detection. The study suggests that more advanced platforms capable of detecting visual plagiarism are highly needed especially in the fields of interior design and education.
