Abstract

The Reality of Digital Transformation in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals in Information Institutions: The case of the University of Emirates Libraries.

Abstract
The research focuses on the primary question: What is the status of digital transformation in UAE University Libraries and its impact on achieving SDGs? This question is further explored through sub-questions: What initiatives have been undertaken to support SDGs through digital transformation? How effective has digital transformation in UAE University Libraries been in advancing these goals? What obstacles exist in adopting digital transformation, and how can they be overcome?
The study utilizes a descriptive-analytical methodology, using tools such as literature reviews, interviews with stakeholders, and surveys to evaluate the role of digital transformation in supporting SDGs.
Findings indicate that UAE University Libraries play a pivotal role in achieving SDGs by providing open access to diverse information resources and leveraging metaverse technologies to create interactive, inclusive environments that support education, research, and innovation.
Key challenges include limited funding, staffing shortages, and resistance to change due to insufficient training.
The study recommends enhancing digital transformation efforts by integrating artificial intelligence tools, expanding virtual and digital library services, and improving user satisfaction to encourage greater utilization of library resources. Additionally, it emphasizes raising awareness among staff about the significance of digital transformation and continuously developing services to better align with SDGs.
