Smart Library: The Concepts,, Dimensions,, Elements and Technology

Abstract

The advancements in smart technology have led to new concepts for libraries and their services, namely “smart libraries” and “ smart technologies”. Where it turned out that many countries and information institutions at the global level are moving in the direction of smart libraries. The concept of a smart library appeared more than two decades ago and has been used in all of the libraries all over the world in library literature. The present study reviewed the phenomenon of smart libraries and smart technology. The role of a smart library required using smart technologies such as AI, IoT,…etc. The study reviewed the definitions of the smart library, its dimensions, elements, as well as its services. The role of the SL librarian is mentioned. The necessary tools and equipment for SL are also explained. The study concluded with a number of results derived from SL literature analysis and a number of recommendations are presented.
