Readings in the future of the library and information profession: the impact of technology, economics, and demographics

Abstract

In recent years, no profession has undergone changes that affect its trajectory, as the library and information profession has. Therefore, this presentation, which deals with readings in the future of the library and information profession, the impact of technology, the economy, and demographic factors, aims to extrapolate some of the most important future expectations of the library and information profession, and depends mainly on the extrapolation of intellectual production, and on the analysis of trends reports of the International Federation of Library Associations and its modern institutions, IFLA Trend Reports, Depending on the descriptive approach in its survey style, the readings concluded that the last report issued in January 2022 made 20 predictions based on the Delphi method in the first round, then in the second round it made 10 predictions, and in the third round 5 predictions, which are the most likely and predictable for the future of the librarian profession and information, namely; The virtual reality will continue, and the surrounding environment must be taken into account, and there is an impact of climate change on libraries, the necessity and importance of continuing education, and finally there will be inequality in the provision of services. Therefore, it covers topics: the library and information profession. Reports trends of the International Federation of Library Associations and its institutions. The future of the library and information profession.
